Patient reminders:
- Please remove all nail polish before your appointment.
- Please bring a list of medications with you to your appointment.
- You will be asked to remove your outdoor footwear upon entering the building. Please bring indoor shoes or slippers to your appointment if you are at high risk for falls or require footwear to be worn at all times.
- Please arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment if you intend to fill out your intake form in person.

WHAT DOES THE FOOT CARE ENTAIL?
This service includes:
- Thorough assessment of the lower legs and feet
- Cleansing of the feet (this is a soakless service; feet are cleansed with 70% alcohol)
- Reduction of thick toenails (as needed)
- Clipping and shaping of toenails
- Callus reduction
- Corn removal (as needed)
- Moisturizer application
- Foot rub
- Patient education
DO YOU NEED TO BE A DIABETIC TO BECOME A FOOT CARE PATIENT?
Not just for diabetic patients.
If you experience any of the following, you may be a candidate for Foot Care:
- Excessive dryness and/or cracking
- Ingrown or involuted toenails
- Fungal nails
- Thick nails or ram's horn nails
- Corns
- Heavy callusing
- Bunions or hammer toes
- Loss of protective sensation (numbness, tingling, burning)
- Difficulty reaching or seeing your feet
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The initial appointment is $80.00 and the follow-up appointment is $70.00
IS FOOT CARE COVERED UNDER INSURANCE?
There are insurance companies that provide insurance coverage for Nursing Foot Care!
If you are interested in becoming a patient, we encourage you to check with your personal health insurance provider to ensure you have coverage prior to your
appointment.
DO YOU NEED A DOCTOR REFERRAL?
You do not need a Doctors referral to see the advanced foot care nurse.
However your
insurance provider may require you to have one to receive coverage.
DO YOU DIRECT BILL?
Direct billing can be done for Veterans / Retired RCMP covered under Blue Cross and
patients who are subsidized by Central Health.
All other insurances can not be direct billed and patients will be required to pay upfront for the service and submit their
receipts to their insurance for reimbursement.
DO YOU ACCEPT PATIENTS WHO ARE GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED & COVERED BY CENTRAL HEALTH?
Yes! Patients who are subsidized must provide their Service Authorization Form on booking their appointment and are required to pay the remainder of the service fee upfront.
The remaining service fee:
Initial appointment $40.00
Follow-up appointment $30.00.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FOLLOW-UP WITH A FOOT CARE APPOINTMENT?
It is recommended that patients follow up with an appointment every 6-8 weeks.
CAN THE FOOT CARE NURSE SCREEN PATIENTS FOR PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY?
Yes. A 10g monofilament test may be conducted during the Initial appointment to determine if the patient is positive for Loss of Protective Sensation.
10 sites are tested per Foot.
CAN THE FOOT CARE NURSE TREAT ARCH PAIN?
Although the foot care nurse cannot directly treat arch pain, they will assess the structure of your foot and make appropriate suggestions and referrals based on your needs.
The Foot Care Nurse may offer suggestions related to:
- Footwear
- Orthotics and/or over-the-counter inserts
- Padding and/or strapping
- Exercise and/or stretching
WHAT PRECAUTIONS ARE TAKEN TO PREVENT THE RISK OF INFECTION?
All instruments used during the foot care service are sterile and single-use. Instruments remain in their sterile packaging and are opened in front of the patient during their appointment to further ensure sterility. After care has been provided, instruments are then appropriately discarded.
Any equipment that cannot be sterilized is disinfected before and after patient care. The Foot Care Nurse follows strict Infection Prevention and Control guidelines and best practice recommendations to ensure client safety is a priority.
